Don SaleeWe moved (some would call it travelled) a lot in our marriage and we have raised three kids. We have lived in more places than I care to remember, but I am reminded frequently by my mother-in-law, Stella Watkins.  We started in El Centro, CA.  As a new member I learned the scriptures by studying and preaching.  I learned it was a tough job. I was always looking for and finding people who wanted to have a Bible class.

SOME HIGHLIGHTS OF OUR ADVENTURES: Congregations we attended: El Centro, CA; Salem, OR.; Yakima, WA; Morro Bay, OR.; Alamosa, CO.; Escondido, CA; Wickenburg, AZ.  A number of the congregations were very memorable and others not so much.

  • El Centro, CA - I was baptized and learned a lot, learned to teach, preach, and have Bible classes.
  • Salem, OR. - I did a little of everything; singing, preaching, teaching, home Bible classes and served as a deacon.
  • Morro Bay, CA. - I attended a small, but very stable group in Cayucos CA. with strong leadership and excellent preaching.
  • Alamosa, CO. - A small group of about 50 people and I did a little of everything.
  • Escondido, CA. - We attended with a small group which rented space in a office building. All of us worked together and shared all the chores of preaching, teaching, and having Bible classes.

In 2006 we decided to hang it up and sold our insurance agency to an old insurance friend, Jeff, for $1 down and we agreed to work out the details, which we did three months later. Everything continues to work well since we sold the business to Jeff and it works well as it should since he is a Christian.

We have been impressed with the Surprise Church, its steadfastness and love of God's word.  The leadership has apparently been excellent with a history of growth, stability and love.

We apologize for not knowing more members better.  I have been laid up about 75% of the time for the past seven years.  Just structural repairs; neck, knees, and back, but now I am doing good and enjoying being active in the church.

One of my goals for the church is Ephesians 4:1-6, to keep the unity of the spirit, and the bond of peace.
