G.E.M.S. is an active adult ministry for those 50 and over.
The West Valley area of metropolitan Phoenix is very diverse when it comes to age. However, it is a destination point for many individuals from across the country that are looking to and towards retirement. To meet the very unique needs of this population, the Surprise Church of Christ created the GEMS Ministry, a ministry designed to serve and encourage active participation, promote dignified, enjoyable, productive, and rewarding Christian living for members 50 years and older. It's also an opportunity to tap into the vast resources of knowledge and experience of these members, as a way to mentor the younger generation both within the church and in the community.
If you are a Senior member of the church and have not filled out the GEMS Survey or would like to up-date an existing GEMS Survey: Login under For Members then click on the GEMS Survey under the For Members Menu. Complete the GEMS survey and submit it. This survey will help us tap into the resources that are in the congregation.

Ladies Bible Class meets at the building on Thursdays at 10am. Contact Laura Batty with any questions.
Ladies' Luncheon meets every 2nd Tuesday at the building from 11am-1pm. Bring your own lunch/drink and be ready to fellowship. See Karen Gamble with questions.
Men's (Young & Old) Breakfasts will be held every 2nd Saturday from 8:30am to 10am in the Activities center.
The breakfasts are informal with great food and fellowship. There is a Biblical-based devotional and/or testimonials given by attendees. Guests and visitors are always welcome.
The Life Group Ministry at Surprise Church of Christ serves to bring family and friends closer together through fellowship, worship, communion and study in the Word of God.
The open and comfortable environment also provides an opportunity for visitors and new members of our church family to begin new friendships and build upon existing relationships, exemplifying the phrase -- "Where strangers become friends, and friends become family."
There are several groups that are led by various people below. They meet on Sunday afternoons at various times and places. Check the bulletin for time and place each week.
- Group 1: David Parks (meets on Zoom from 5-6pm)
- Group 2: Ron Runion (meets at various homes at 6pm
- Group 3: Teen Life Group (meets in the teen room at 5:30pm)
- Group 4: John Batty Group (meets at various homes at 4pm)
- Group 5: Ladies' Bible class (meets Thursdays at 10am at the building)
Subcategories
Children
Our Children's Ministry consists of Bible classes for children ages two years to fifth grade, Children's Learning Time, and activities that will help them grow in their spiritual and everyday lives.
You can listen to past sermons by just hitting the "play" button (streaming), or by downloading them as an MP3 to put on your iPod, MP3 player, etc. Filters are available on the right side of the sermon page to help you find a certain sermon from the past or listen to a certain person. Use the share buttons to spread the Good News with your friends on Facebook and other social sites.
Children
We love kids! On Sunday mornings, we have a nursery, Children's Learning time during worship, and Bible classes. We also have Wednesday night Bible class, Vacation Bible School, and other fun activity nights.
Teens
Teens are awesome human beings! We love their energy and passion for Jesus and his ways. Every year, we hold a "Sold Out" Youth rally as well as other youth activities. We also have a special class for teens on Sundays and Wednesdays.
